The first test of the RFME Cup of Spain Speed Classic and ESBK Legends was held last weekend at the Ricardo Tormo circuit, and attracted a large audience that did not hesitate to come to Cheste to enjoy the event.
Again this year these two Cups start the season with an excellent number of entries and with drivers who were already excited and eager to start racing. In total there will be 7 tests during 2023 which will be held in Valencia, Jarama, Navarra, Cartagena, Albacete and Jerez.
Sergio Fuertes wins the first test in the Classic Speed.
In timed qualifying of the RFME Spanish Cup Velocita Classica Sergio Fuertes took pole position after the two sessions followed by Javier Triguero and Vicente Arnau who completed the front row of the grid. Leading right from the start, Sergio took the win, his first of the season. Arnau crossed the line second, also driving in that position for all the remaining laps, and Joaquín Orts, on a comeback, recovering positions since the traffic lights went out, finished in the top three.
By categories, in Vintage A the following have reached the podium: José Vicente Andreu, Gregorio Cañizares and Begoña Loizaga. In Vintage B: Vicente Arnau, Joaquín Orts and Enrique Vidal and in Vintage C: Sergio Fuertes, Jorge Santiago Cabanes and Rafael Gimeno.
Manuel Segarra takes victory in ESBK Legends
Enrique Fernández was fastest in ESBK Legends times but very close in times to runner-up, Manuel Segarra. Adrià Araujo finished third. These three drivers were the ones who started from the front row of the grid.
On the third lap the race was stopped with a red flag due to the crash of 4 riders. At the restart, 5 laps down, Manuel dominated from start to finish while Enrique had to settle for running second and seeing the checkered flag in that position. Jorge Arroyo, fourth in the first laps, took advantage of Araujo’s retirement and crossed the finish line third.
In SBK 750 Legends, Manuel Segarra, Enrique Fernández and Joan García were in the drawers of honor; in the SSP 600 Classic Iván Álvarez and José Antonio Conde and in the SSP 600 Legends Jorge Arroyo, Víctor López and David Chumillas.
On the weekend of 14 and 15 April, the second round of the RFME Spanish Speed Classic Cup and ESBK Legends will be held on the Jarama circuit.
