SARA SÁNCHEZ ENDS HER DEBUT WEEKEND AT THE HEAD OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP; NUMEROUS SURPRISES AT THE MUGELLO CIRCUIT
There is no shortage of topics to talk about after the closing of the first double round at the Mugello Circuit, the opening venue of the Women’s European Cup 2021. The surprise is undoubtedly represented by the Spanish Sara Sánchez, rider of the CM Racing Kawasaki team able to take the second step of the podium in Round 1 and triumph in Round 2, all in his debut weekend. The Spanish rookie also signs the best lap in the second heat in 2’10.793, which put her at the top of the standings with a score of 46 total points. To reconfirm herself as champion, must therefore sweat not a little Beatriz Neila Santos, who with the Yamaha R3 of the Trasimeno team ended the weekend in third and second place respectively, and with a Best lap in race 1 of 2’09.914, but especially with a competition much more fierce than last year. Adding up the fast lap in race 1, the 2020 leader gains 37 points, four less than another wonderful protagonist of the two challenges: Roberta Ponziani (team Kawasaki Prodina) with the victory on Saturday and the third today, jumps in fact to the second place overall with 41 points. Huge disappointment instead for Sabrina Della Manna, despite the fierce and spectacular maneuvers that have always seen her battle in the leading quintet; the driver of the Gradara corse team was disqualified at the end of round 1 after an electronic problem with the bike found in the checks, despite having passed second under the checkered flag, while today she became involved in the accident that caused her fall and that of the innocent Alexandra Pelikánová at the end of the eighth lap, and which forced the marshals to show the red flag and therefore the early closure of the race. The Czech of the Yamaha Motoxracing team, after excelling in free practice, finished the weekend with just 14 points, the result of the pole position conquered in 2’10.599 and yesterday’s fourth place. Returning to the two rounds, we could say that we have seen similar races, with the five aforementioned athletes able to quickly detach their opponents and impose an unsustainable pace on their pursuers. Aurelia Cruciani (Team Yamaha BRT) still has pain in her right ankle after a bad accident during winter training, and she scores 18 points. Excellent instead the performance of the debutant Sara Cabrini, fifth and fourth with the kawasaki of the ALS team, which rises to fourth place in the standings with 24 points, leaving by 4 lengths another surprising rookie, Isis Carreno: the Chilean is seventh and fifth with the kawasaki of the GP3 team. Nineteen total points and sixth position in the standings for Masha Medvedeva (Yamaha Rosso & Nero team), 15 for Martina Guarino (Yamaha Motoxracing team). The Women’s European Cup will meet you on May 16th at the Misano Circuit, the scene of Round.
